Soros Chooses Fitzpatrick from UBS as New CIO

Fitzpatrick will be firm’s 7th CIO since April, 2000.

Soros Fund Management has named Dawn Fitzpatrick, former head of investments at UBS Asset Management, as its new CIO.

At UBS, Fitzpatrick was head of equities, multi-asset and, at the O’Connor hedge fund business, supervised investments of more than  $303 billion.

Fitzpatrick is the seventh person to hold the job of CIO at Soros since April 2000, when investor Stanley Druckenmiller left to run his own firm. Soros Fund Management LLC was founded in 1969 and is based in New York, .

Fitzpatrick joins Soros after its former CIO, Ted Burdick, left the position last year after eight months on the job. He had replaced Scott Bessent, who left after four years as CIO to launch his own hedge fund firm. A UBS memo said Fitzpatrick will remain in her position at UBS Asset Management until the end of March.

Fitzpatrick began her career with O'Connor & Associates in 1992.  During Fitzpatrick’s tenure at O’Connor, she served as head of various teams that specialized in equities, equity options, index options, convertible arbitrage and merger arbitrage. In August 2013, when O'Connor became a standalone business area within UBS Global Asset Management, Fitzpatrick was appointed as global head and CIO O'Connor. Prior to that role, she was global head and CIO of O'Connor within the alternative and quantitative investments group. At USB, she also served as head of the Tactical Trading Strategy team within O’Connor.

Fitzpatrick holds a BS degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. She also was a member of the UBS Global Asset Management Executive Committee and Americas Risk Committee. She has been a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Investor Advisory Committee on Financial Markets and also served on the Board of Trustees at the Hackley School, a private college preparatory school located in Tarrytown, New York.
