  • Clint Coghill

    Chief Executive Officer, Backstop

    Clint Coghill co-founded Backstop Solutions Group in 2003 as the Founding Chairman and has helped guide the company as Chairman of the Board. Clint now leads the Backstop Executive Team as CEO.
    Prior to joining Backstop in an executive role, Clint was CIO of Coghill Capital Management, a successful Chicago-based hedge fund management company he started in 1995. Among his other professional pursuits, Clint was the Founding Chairman of NFTE Chicago’s Regional Advisory Board, which provides entrepreneurship programs to young people from low-income communities and reaches more than 2,000 youth per year. He is also the founder of two charitable Organizations, the Coghill Family Foundation and the Environmental Impact Initiative.
    Clint received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the London Business School.

    Family owned a golf course and his first job was retrieving golf balls from the water hazards

  • Shivin Kwatra

    Head of LDI Portfolio Management – US, Insight Investment

    Shivin joined Insight in November 2017 as Head of LDI Portfolio Management for North America. Prior to this, Shivin was a senior portfolio manager at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he managed fixed income and LDI portfolios. He started his career within the Investment Bank at JP Morgan on the Structured Products and Derivatives Marketing team. He was a founding member of the pension advisory group at JP Morgan (which was acquired by Pacific Life) and Head of Direct Investments at Pacific Global Advisors (which was acquired by Goldman Sachs). Shivin holds a BSc in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the McIntire School at the University of Virginia, where he was also the captain of the men’s golf team. He is a CFA charterholder and maintains Series 7 and 63 licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and Series 3 license from the National Futures Association.

  • Dr. Dambisa Moyo

    Global Economist, Author & Board Member, Versaca Investments

    Dr. Moyo is a co-principal of Versaca Investments – a family office investing in growth and technology themes. She serves on a number of global corporate boards including: The 3M Corporation, Chevron and Conde Nast. She worked at the World Bank, and Goldman Sachs for nearly a decade. She is the author of four New York Times bestselling books, with her newest book, “How Boards Work – And How They Can Work Better in a Chaotic World” which is scheduled to be published May 4, 2021. Dambisa holds a PhD in economics from Oxford University and a Master’s degree from Harvard University.

  • Andrew Palmer

    Chief Investment Officer, Maryland State Retirement and Pension System

    Andrew Palmer, CFA is the Chief Investment Officer for the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. In this role, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the System’s investment division and has overall responsibility for the System’s investment program. Previously he was the Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Director of Fixed Income for the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System. In addition to his role as Director of Fixed Income, he led the construction of a Strategic Lending Portfolio, was a member of the Private Equity and Real Estate Committees and shared in the responsibility for tactical asset allocation and new product development. He began his career at ASB Capital Management, a Bethesda, Maryland based institutional advisory firm. Mr. Palmer is a member of the University of Maryland, Economics Leadership Council, and the ILPA, has been active in the CFA program and was President of the Washington Association of Money Managers. He received a BA and an MA in Economics from the University of Maryland.

  • Carlos Rangel

    Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, W.K. Kellogg Foundation

    Carlos Rangel is vice president and chief investment officer for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. In this role, he supports the foundation efforts to promote thriving children, working families, and equitable communities.

    Rangel serves on the foundation’s executive council and is responsible for both Kellogg Foundation and Kellogg Foundation Trust investment portfolios. The foundation is the fourth largest in the U.S. with more than $8 billion in assets

    During his more than a decade tenure at the foundation, Rangel has contributed his skill and innovative approaches to investments.  Most recently, Rangel has been leading the Expanding Equity work for the Kellogg Foundation in partnership with the CEO’s office

    Before joining the foundation, Rangel spent nine years at Managed Asset Portfolios researching public equities. From 2008 – 2010, he taught undergraduate finance classes as an adjunct instructor at Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration.

    Rangel earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance from the University of Michigan – Dearborn. He holds the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and Certificate in Investment Performance Management (CIPM).  He volunteers at Family & Children Services.

  • Tim Recker

    Chief Investment Officer and Treasurer, The James Irvine Foundation

    Tim Recker joined Irvine in November 2016 as the Chief Investment Officer and Treasurer. He directs the Foundation’s $3.5 billion endowment, develops its investment policy and strategy, and is a member of the Foundation’s Executive Team.

    Prior to Irvine, Mr. Recker served for 10 years as the Managing Director of Private Equity and Real Assets for the Regents of the University of California where he oversaw an $8 billion portfolio. Previously, he was Director of Alternative Investments for the Michigan Retirement System, where he oversaw a $13 billion portfolio of Private Equity, Hedge Funds, and Structured Products. Prior to Michigan, Mr. Recker was a portfolio manager for GE Asset Management, running a $5 billion multi-asset portfolio. He completed the two-year Financial Management Program at General Electric.

    Mr. Recker is the former Chairperson of the Institutional Limited Partners Association and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a trustee and investment committee chair for the College Preparatory School, an investment committee member for the Piedmont Community Church and a regular guest lecturer at UC Berkeley.

    Mr. Recker earned his M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Bellarmine College.

  • Melissa Waller

    President, AIF Institute and Former Deputy Treasurer, State of North Carolina

    Melissa Waller currently serves as President of the AIF Institute, providing essential research and resources to institutional investors globally to help them achieve their investment objectives. 

    Previously Melissa served as the former Deputy Treasurer and Chief of Staff for the North Carolina Department of State Treasury, where she successfully oversaw Department strategic planning, operations, and public-policy implementation, along with a staff of more than 400 employees. 

    The North Carolina Retirement Systems, the pension fund for the state, is the tenth largest public pension fund in the United States, with assets in excess of $100 billion.

    Melissa’s background includes over 20 years of private and public-sector financial industry experience, including 15 years in the banking sector with Wachovia/Wells Fargo.  She has served as Chair of the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer’s Corporate Governance Committee, as well as on the Council of Institutional Investors Board of Directors and the Governor’s Board of Innovation for the North Carolina University System.  She currently serves as Executive Program Director for the National Institute of Public Finance, as well as Director of Public Private Partnerships for the Kenan Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
