Lazard Taps Eric Van Nostrand as First CIO

The asset manager also promoted Rosalie Berman to chief operating officer.

A little more than half a year after Lazard Asset Management hired Eric Van Nostrand to the then-newly created role of global head of markets and chief economist, it tapped him as the firm’s first CIO.

Van Nostrand’s new remit includes overseeing investment processes, as well as conducting ongoing reviews of the company’s strategies and risk guidance. According to the firm, all portfolio managers will report to Van Nostrand; however, they will still be responsible for making the investment decisions within their portfolios.

“Establishing the CIO role marks an important evolution in how we support our investors and deliver for clients,” Lazard Asset Management CEO Chris Hogbin said in a statement. “By unifying elements of our investment oversight, we can strengthen analytical rigor, build greater collaboration across teams, and enhance the consistency of our process.”

Prior to joining Lazard in June 2025, Van Nostrand had been acting assistant secretary of the treasury for economic policy, overseeing the analysis of domestic and international U.S. economic policies. Prior to that, he was a portfolio manager and managing director at BlackRock, where he was the manager of systematic equity funds and the head of research for its multi-asset strategies.
