Angela Rodell
Star Mountain Capital LLC, an employee-owned investment firm, announced Thursday that Angela Rodell, former CEO of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corp., joined the firm as a senior adviser.
According to the announcement, Rodell will educate institutional and high-net-worth investors on the reasons to add lower-middle-market private credit to their portfolios. She will also work to enhance Star Mountain portfolio companies’ governance and leadership diversity. The New York-based firm had approximately $4.5 billion in committed capital, including debt facilities, under management as of January 31.
As CEO of Alaska’s sovereign wealth fund until 2021, Rodell modernized trade, risk and operating systems and oversaw growth in AUM to $80 billion from $50 billion.
“Star Mountain’s focus on disciplined, long-term investing and thoughtful risk management aligns closely with the principles that have guided my work in institutional settings,” Rodell said in a statement. “I look forward to supporting the firm’s strategy and stakeholders through a collaborative, practical approach that emphasizes consistent execution and durable results.”
Prior to running the Alaska Permanent Fund, Rodell was commissioner of the Alaska Department of Revenue, where she oversaw more than $100 billion in retirement and state funds. She initially joined the department as deputy commissioner in 2011. Her public finance career started in New York as a senior investment banker and financial adviser, managing capital financing plans for U.S. state and state-agency clients.
“Angela’s leadership across sovereign wealth and public finance, coupled with her track record modernizing complex organizations and stewarding large pools of capital, brings a valuable lens to our team and the investors we serve,” said Brett Hickey, Star Mountain Capital’s founder and CEO.
Since 2022, Rodell has led Rodell Consulting, which offers strategic advisory services. She also advised On Pepper, a fintech startup serving alternative asset managers.
In 2021, Rodell was elected to a three-year term as chair of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds, and she served a two-year term as chair of the Pacific Pension and Investment Institute from 2021 to 2023. She currently chairs the nonprofit Launch Alaska, which connects climate-tech companies with customers and partners in Alaska.
Rodell earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Marquette University.
