Bloomberg L.P. announced Wednesday an agreement to acquire Canoe Software Inc., commonly known as Canoe Intelligence, a private markets data management and intelligence platform, in a bid to cover both public and private markets.
Through the integration of Canoe’s platform into the Bloomberg terminal, the firm aims to offer:
- A fully integrated total portfolio view, creating a holistic view of public and private assets;
- Enhanced pre-investment intelligence covering private markets, including fund screening, benchmarking and comparative analysis;
- A converged data infrastructure, including broad fund coverage and more timely performance data; and
- Artificial-intelligence-powered insights.
The two firms previously partnered to integrate private-fund data from Canoe Intelligence directly into Bloomberg’s Port Enterprise—a portfolio and risk analytics platform—to support cross-asset portfolio analysis.
Canoe processes 1.5 million documents per month, covering more than 44,000 private funds, and delivers insights to more than 500 institutional clients representing more than $11 trillion in assets, according to a statement from Bloomberg.
“Alternative investors manage billions in private capital without the visibility and insights that public markets take for granted,” said Jason Eiswerth, Canoe’s CEO, in a statement. “When we partnered with Bloomberg earlier this year on our Port integration, we saw firsthand what becomes possible when Canoe’s data automation meets Bloomberg’s portfolio infrastructure. Joining Bloomberg lets us build on that foundation at scale, with more resources, more reach, and more data behind Canoe, giving investors the clarity to analyze their complete portfolios and the confidence to act on what they see.”
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Canoe Intelligence—incubated by alternative investment firms 10 East and 22C Capital—counts Blackstone, Carlye AlpInvest, Eight Roads, F-Prime Capital, Goldman Sachs, Hamilton Lane and Nasdaq Venture as investors in the platform.
In 2024, Canoe was awarded CIO’s Asset Management & Servicing Innovation Award in the Data and Technology category.
