Cedars-Sinai Appoints CIO for $8B Portfolio

The Cedars-Sinai Medical Center health system announced Tuesday the appointment of Michael Buchman as CIO, overseeing its $8 billion investment portfolio.

Buchman will lead the Los Angeles-based healthcare system’s investment strategy, as well as asset allocation, risk management, manager selection and operations, according to the announcement.

“I am excited to join Cedars-Sinai and look forward to continue stewarding and growing its investment portfolio in service of its mission,” Buchman said in a statement. “Investing Cedars-Sinai’s assets by partnering with outstanding investment managers will generate returns that enable us to enhance health and healthcare in Los Angeles and beyond.”

According to the announcement, Buchman and his three children were all born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He joins from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, where he served in a variety of roles over 18 years, including as its CIO since 2021.

Previously, he held associate roles at law firms Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson and Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Buchman earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

“Michael is the ideal leader to strategically grow our investment portfolio and enable us to better serve all those who need Cedars-Sinai,” said David Wrigley, Cedars-Sinai’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, in a statement.
