Amiri, who left the health care fund in April, will now be responsible for “safeguarding and effectively stewarding the university’s financial resources,” the university announced Tuesday. This includes managing the school’s treasury, office of insurance and risk management, and student and parent loan programs.
“Mark Amiri is well-qualified and brings the right kind of experience and financial savvy to the position,” said Mark Wrighton, university chancellor. “We are pleased to have him joining our leadership team and I have no doubt he will shepherd the university’s resources wisely and responsibly.”
Amiri previously served as treasurer during his 27-year tenure at Ascension Health. He joined Baylor Scott & White’s $5.7 billion fund in 2008.
In his new role, Amiri will report to Amy Kweskin, who was the university’s treasurer before being promoted to chief financial officer on January 1. At Washington University, the CFO oversees accounting services, treasury management and insurance, sponsored projects accounting, and financial planning and analysis.
The university’s $7.5 billion endowment is managed separately by the Washington University Investment Management Company, which is led by CIO Kim Walker.
