Joe Aguilar
Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based multi-family office Market Street Trust Co. announced Tuesday the appointment of Illinois State Treasury CIO Joe Aguilar as the $2.5 billion firm’s vice president and CIO.
Aguilar joined the Office of the Illinois State Treasurer in 2016 as deputy director of investment analysis and due diligence. He was promoted to director of investment analysis and due diligence in 2018 and to CIO in 2021.
At Market Street Trust, Aguilar succeeds Marc Dizard, who was named CIO of Huntington National Bank’s wealth management division in December 2025.

As CIO under Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, Aguilar oversaw $65 billion in investments across several funds, including the Illinois Growth and Innovation Fund; Illinois Secure Choice; the First Fund; a 529 college savings plan; and the state’s Achieving a Better Life Experience accounts.
Aguilar was named a winner in the public defined benefit greater than $25 billion category at CIO’s 2025 Industry Innovation Awards.
Previously, Aguilar was an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Aurora University, and worked at Fortaleza Asset Management in operations and equity research roles.
Aguilar earned a bachelor of arts degree in finance, business and commerce from Aurora University and a master’s degree in finance from the University of Miami’s Herbert Business School.
