Ralph Berg, CIO of the Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System, which provides retirement benefits for about 500,000 public employees of the Canadian province, is leaving his role effective July 1, a spokesperson for OMERS told CIO.
The London-based investment executive will join Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek on September 1 as the firm’s head of Europe and head of its new energy and industrials team and its mobility and logistics team, according to a Temasek statement.
“We thank Ralph for his many contributions throughout his years at OMERS and wish him success in the next chapter of his career,” the OMERS spokesperson said.
Berg, who has been with OMERS since 2013, has long steered the pension fund’s investments in infrastructure and real assets. He previously served as the fund’s global head of capital markets. Before that, he was the firm’s global head of infrastructure.
OMERS President and CEO Blake Hutcheson will assume the responsibilities of CIO in Berg’s absence, the spokesperson said.
OMERS currently allocates 22% of its portfolio to infrastructure—its largest allocation to any asset class. The fund also allocates 15% to real estate. In fiscal 2025, OMERS reported a 6% return, trailing its 7.5% benchmark, and an annualized 7.1% return over the past 10 years, compared with its benchmark’s 7.3% return over the same period.
An infrastructure investment banker by trade, Berg was a managing director and head of European utilities at Credit Suisse from 2005 to 2012 and was a director in Deutsche Bank’s London-based energy team.
The Canadian pension fund manages C$145.2 billion ($103.6 billion) in assets, as of December 31, 2025.![]() |
