The Fondo de Ahorro de Panamá, the sovereign wealth fund of Panama, announced last week the appointment of Victor Mojica Caballero as secretariat of the fund, effective June 15.

Mojica Caballero succeeds Abdiel Santiago, who had been with the fund since its founding in 2013.

“After a rigorous and objective process, the Board of Directors determined that Víctor has the strongest profile to lead the FAP at this stage,” said Mario Amaya, chairman of the fund’s board, in a translated statement. “His profile reflects what the board was looking for in this position: strategic vision, a solid reputation, a commitment to institutional governance, and a deep understanding of global markets.”

Mojica Caballero has held leadership positions at banks and investment managers, including UBS, Bladex and Multibank, and most recently worked as finance and treasury manager at Banco Pichincha Panamá.

Mojica Caballero earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA, both in accounting, from Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua in Panama City and an executive MBA in banking and finance from the INCAE Business School’s Panama Executive Center.

“It is an honor to assume the responsibility of leading the Panama Savings Fund at this time,” Caballero said in a statement. “The FAP is a solid institution with an important legacy and a fundamental role for the country’s financial future. My commitment is to preserve that strength and continue building on the foundation that has brought us this far.”
