Divyangi Anchan
TIAA announced the appointment of Divyangi Anchan as chief risk and compliance officer, technology and artificial intelligence risk. She will report to Mike Cowell, TIAA’s chief risk officer and chief compliance officer.
“From my very first interactions, it was clear that TIAA’s leadership and associates share an extraordinary level of clarity and alignment to its mission,” Anchan wrote in a LinkedIn post. “One statistic in particular has stuck with me—roughly 40% of Americans cannot retire with financial safety. A mission focused on enabling a dignified retirement for everyone deeply resonated with me. When you combine that kind of purpose with a 100+ year legacy, meaningful business growth, and exciting, in-progress technology transformation, the role of the risk and compliance organization becomes self-evident.”
The appointment comes as the leaders of many AI companies, including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and XAI’s Elon Musk, have called for a temporary pause in AI research based on their concerns over increased risk that AI may develop to be uncontrollable and therefore unsafe.
Anchan previously led AI risk management and controls for Google’s enterprise and corporate capabilities. She also held senior risk and compliance roles at American Express and J.P. Morgan.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Mumbai University in India and a master’s degree in computer science from Stony Brook University in New York.
