Outsourced CIO provider TIFF Investment Management named Chun Lai, CIO of the Rockefeller Foundation, to its advisory board, a group of institutional investors that provides insight and guidance to the firm.

TIFF stated that Lai’s experience overseeing the management of Rockefeller’s $7 billion endowment will provide an invaluable perspective to TIFF’s work for nonprofit investors.

The firm’s advisory board also includes Rick Slocum, CIO of the Harvard Management Co.; Robert Durden, CEO and CIO of the University of Virginia Investment Management Co.; Bola Olusanya, CIO of the MacArthur Foundation; Alyssa Rieder, CIO of CommonSpirit Health; and Scott Wilson, CIO of the Washington University Investment Management Co.

“We are honored to welcome Chun to TIFF’s TAS Advisory Board,” said TIFF CEO Kane Brenan in a statement. “Chun is one of the most respected leaders in endowment investing, and his perspective will be incredibly valuable to our investment team and the clients we serve. His appointment is especially meaningful given the role the Rockefeller Foundation played in establishing TIFF 35 years ago.”

Lai joined the Rockefeller Foundation in 1996 and previously worked at the State of Connecticut Retirement Funds. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

TIFF was founded in 1991 by the Rockefeller and MacArthur foundations with the goal of giving nonprofits access to sophisticated investment strategies that were typically reserved only for large institutional investors.

“TIFF is proud to have representation from both the MacArthur and Rockefeller foundations—its two founding organizations—on the TAS Advisory Board during its 35th anniversary year,” TIFF stated.
