Truist Financial Corp. announced on Monday the formation of an institutional capital group, which it plans to service family offices and middle-market private equity sponsors.

Truist plans for the new group to complement the firm’s financial sponsors group, which is focused on covering large-cap private equity sponsors. In a statement, Truist noted private equity and family office transactions have increased by 84% over the last decade.

The institutional capital group will be led by New York-based Chris Jackson, who previously led the sponsors coverage group at Citi.

“Chris’s background, product expertise and sponsor coverage experience make him the ideal purpose-driven leader to build our team and take share in this important market,” said Jason Cagle, Truist’s head of specialized industries and institutional capital, in a statement. “By segmenting institutional capital clients based on their needs, we will strengthen our relevancy and increase our share of wallet.”
