A Revamped Team for Vanderbilt Endowment

The investment office has added eight new hires over the past two years, including a CIO.

Vanderbilt University has added four staffers to its endowment investment office, according to the Nashville-based school.

Three of the new hires, who began this summer, work as investment managers for the $4 billion fund. Priti Mody joins Vanderbilt’s private market team from Prudential Capital Group and, prior to that, Cogent Partners.

“We now have completed our third wave of additions and largely have finished the rebuilding of the investment office.”

The public market division has gained Matthew McGanity, former bank analyst, and Michael Billings, who departs a funds-of-funds-focused vice president role at First Pacific Advisors.

Finally, the endowment has scooped George Washington University’s endowment operations manager William Staedeli to run Vanderbilt’s back office.

These four additions join three other new hires announced last summer, and CIO Anders Hall, who took over in September 2013. Hall left his job as head of public securities at Duke University’s endowment—his alma mater—to lead the investment office. Last year, Hall and his team posted a strong 13.3% return on the university’s investment fund.

“Bill, Priti, Matt, and Michael are tremendous additions to an already strong investment team,” Hall said. “I am excited that we now have completed our third wave of additions and largely have finished the rebuilding of the investment office.”
