Baillie Gifford to Launch ETF Suite in US

The actively managed exchange-traded funds will focus on emerging markets and international stocks.

U.K.-based asset manager Baillie Gifford & Co. announced Wednesday a suite of exchange-traded-fund products aiming to offer exposure to international and emerging market equities through wrappers.

The funds include an emerging markets ETF (ticker BGEG), an international alpha ETF (BGIA) and two mutual funds converted to ETFs: an international concentrated growth strategy (BGCG) and a long-term global growth ETF (BGGG).

“Active ETFs are growing rapidly, but genuinely differentiated, long-term growth offerings remain scarce in an ETF wrapper—particularly in emerging markets and international equities, where there are only 24 [ETFs] out of thousands,” said Joe Stellato, Baillie Gifford’s head of U.S. wealth, in a statement.

The product launches are part of the firm’s expansion plans in the U.S., where it manages more than $100 billion of its $260 billion in global assets.

The fund has seen a wave of manager terminations from U.S. pension plans due to concerns for the performance of its global equities strategies, as previously reported by Fundfire.

A statement from Baillie Gifford described the introduction of its ETFs as “a milestone in the firm’s evolution,” coming 26 years after it first launched U.S. mutual funds.
