Investment manager Fortress Investment Group announced the appointment of Elizabeth Burton as chief strategist, a new role at the $54 billion manager.

Burton, who previously served as an investment strategist at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and as CIO of the State of Hawaii Employees’ Retirement System, will lead research and analysis on market conditions and emerging opportunities and will provide perspectives for the firm’s limited partner investors.

Burton’s focus will span broad private market themes with an emphasis on Fortress’ core strategies, which include corporate credit, asset-based finance, real estate, net lease and private equity. She will report to Co-CEOs Drew McKnight and Jack Neumark.

“We’re delighted to welcome Elizabeth to Fortress,” McKnight and Neumark said in a joint statement. “Creating a chief strategist role is a key step in our ongoing efforts to enhance our interactions with investors, and to offer them the most timely and useful insights as they seek to understand the rapidly evolving opportunities to invest in private markets.”
