2023 Asset Management & Servicing Winners

ESG

Bailard Winner

Bailard believes ESG is about data, not ideology or politics, and it continues to incorporate environmental, social and governance data to effectively mitigate exposure to risks and to find attractive opportunities. The firm has consistently added new views on data and new data sources to its portfolio methodologies.

Using its proprietary ESG scoring framework, ESG Capture, Bailard evaluates companies on their ESG practices and performance. The framework enables Bailard to mitigate exposure to risks, including climate change; poor corporate governance; undisclosed political giving; poor performance on diversity, equity and inclusion; and more—while also pursuing investing opportunities in companies performing well on, or providing solutions in, these areas. As the firm expands into new strategies, the scoring framework is tailored to accommodate the distinct characteristics of each strategy’s unique investible universe.

In 2022, Bailard used its tools to expand beyond ESG and into impact investing with the launch of the Broad Impact Strategy, seeded by a prominent foundation investment. In 2023, Bailard extended its impact approach globally through the introduction of its Global Broad Impact Strategy. The primary goal of both strategies is to generate a net positive societal impact, while also providing long-term capital appreciation by investing in companies Bailard believes lead on the macro themes of inclusion and sustainability. The strategies also consider 21 underlying micro themes aimed at addressing real-world issues.
