2023 Asset Management & Servicing Winners

Liability-Driven Investing (LDI) – Mega*

J.P. Morgan Asset Management Winner

J.P. Morgan Asset Management views its success in liability-driven investing as extending across the full spectrum of the investment opportunity set. The firm credits its success in the LDI sector to access to unique datasets, quality insights and investment strategies from deep teams that have allowed it to be a leader in pension strategy for decades.

Given the higher-interest-rate environment since 2022, JPMAM has explored ways pension fund investors can lock in attractive long-term interest rates and mitigate duration risk in plan liabilities. The firm points to its more than 40 years in asset-liability management as a source of its expertise, focused on maximizing above-market returns by capturing inefficiencies through dynamic sector rotation and security selection within spread sectors.

The firm has also made a case in recent years for not only avoiding early termination of benefit pension funds, but in some cases for re-opening and integrating them into holistic retirement plan offerings along with defined contribution plans. As a result, the firm has reported seeing glide paths extended, funding targets raised and the value of a pension surplus appreciated.
