2023 Asset Management & Servicing Winners

Private Credit

SLC Management Winner

Few firms have been in the private credit business as long as SLC management, which has been active in the market for more than 50 years. The size of SLCs platform provides the firm with the scale they need to invest in larger transactions, with issuers and dealers knowing the firm can execute deals efficiently and in a meaningful size.

SLC’s investment approach is cycle agnostic and the firm seeks to achieve excess running yield, wherever markets are in the credit cycle. During periods of uncertainty, the firm’s analysts can quickly reach out to issuers to figure out any problems, and then pivot to looking for buying opportunities in a down cycle, as SLC Management was able to during the pandemic.

The firm has enabled ease of access to private credit for pension plans. It has created a series of custom, investable liability indices based on the Pension Protection Act of 2006, as well as a series of funds that make investment grade private credit accessible to pension plans.

These custom funds have allowed plan sponsors to invest in investment grade private credit without the operation hassle that is common in the asset class. The fund also makes it easy for plan sponsors to invest in the asset class that assists insurance companies in generating the yield to do pension buy-outs, which provides plan sponsors with an easier path towards self-sufficiency, if they do not want to pay a premium to do a risk transfer transaction.
